Casa Loma in Toronto
If you will agree with me, castles are beautiful to behold and worth visiting. The high-esteemed Canadian landmark Casa Loma Castle located in midtown Toronto is one. Trust me, you will want to visit the castle after reading this. Enjoy the ride!
Casa Loma, a seven-floor gothic castle mansion was first built in the 1900s by a Canadian financier and soldier, Sir Henry Pellatt whose dream was to build a castle that stands out in the city of Toronto. Today, the 98-room Casa Loma is owned by the city of Toronto and it is one of the top tourist centers in Toronto. With a magnificent facade and extensive gardens with water fountains and sculptures, the castle took 3 years to build, and the cost to build was estimated at $3.5 million. |
Sir Henry Pellatt filled Casa Loma with priceless artwork from Canada and around the world and it is recorded that over 650,000 visitors tour the castle and the estate gardens every year. It is also recorded that the incredible castle plays host to more than 250 private events every year.
Casa Loma is a highly desirable location for photoshoots, television, and film and many famous movies have used the magnificent Casa Loma as their backdrop. This is as a result of its unique architecture and the castle also features in it everything an individual would need to feel like a king. Some include towers, secret passageways, horse stables, and a very large wine cellar that can hold more than 1,800 bottles.
Casa Loma’s interior is so beautiful and mind-blowing that you’ve got no choice but to stand in awe of such beauty. When you get in, there is a Great Hall on the first floor that is 60ft tall and inside of this hall are wooden chandeliers and sculptures. The main floor has a 10,000 book library and a plant-filled conservatory with marble flooring and an amazing stained glass ceiling. Another beautiful thing about the castle is the panoramic views of Toronto you get to see once at the top of these towers. Casa Loma has a basement, though originally made to be a movie theatre and a bowling alley but it serves as a café, movie exhibition, and a gift shop.
When at Casa Loma, you can decide to take an audio tour available in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, or American Sign language and it is open every day from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Casa Loma is so beautiful many tourists come to visit just for the gardens alone!
